Fastfairyland
Debt and entanglement
Fairies have a magic debt system. Debt is caused by taking actions that help or hurt a fairy, for example giving them gifts, singing to them, hurting them, etc. Fairies can natively sense debt. Debt can only exist between pairs of people at least one of whom is a fairy.
If one person is in debt to another person, they are entangled. Knowing someone's name (not just their birth name, but any name they've used a lot) also causes entanglement. Debt wears off very slowly over time (?)
Lying, disobeying orders from someone you're in debt to, and some other things cause misfortune. Misfortune is basically bad luck; it can come in the form of sudden pain, bad weather, or other "natural" consequences. Misfortune affects everyone who is entangled with the person who caused the misfortune, which is why it's bad to be entangled with too many people.
Time and space
Fast-fairies experience time 1000x faster than everyone else, unless slowed down. Humans who go in fairy circles are sped up in the circles and must be entangled with fairies (maybe?) to stay sped up.
Fast-fairies exist parallel to human society, typically Medieval Europe's society, and are at that time most concentrated in Ireland.
Fast people can travel along magic "paths" in ways that cause them to be temporarily smaller. Fairies need not eat anything besides dew.
A fairy must be slow to gestate a child, which is part of why children owe very large debts to their parents.
MaggieoftheOwls' Settings
Soulweft
Every biological organism has a soul. "Soul" does not actually equal "moral value," even less so than "brain" does; in thinking beings, post-mortem consciousness is located in the soul, but in beings that never had any kind of awareness, a soul does not generate one. Souls of creatures more more complex than a bacterium are composed of filaments/threads of soulstuff. Complexity of soul scales with complexity of organism and power level of soul scales with time since organism and thus soul came into being.
Bloodroot
Original setting with biological vampires and herbalism magic.
Carillons
"Crowded" setting with species-specific person-usable magic and death-and-birth-related ambient magic.
Henshin
Magical girl setting with fallen ancient civilizations and magic AI
Bensaylum
Fantasy kitchen sink with sympathetic less-than-omnipotent anti-hell Abrahamic-oid deity. Known for Jesusbell and other templates instantiated as the Second Coming. Contains canonical homoiousianism and other technical heresies.
Aeons
Lovecraft Mythos but with the racism and classism etc. torn out and replaced with transhumanism.
I realize technically this is a "fandom" setting but with Lovecraft as far out of copyright as he is, enh.
Apostasy
Fantasy kitchen sink world where God sucked and then fucked off for mysterious reasons. Influenced strongly by Supernatural but distinct enough not to count as a fandom setting. For one thing, the angels aren't dicks.
Ankeda
High Fantasy setting with tripartite general-use magic: Witches, Wizards and Warlocks.
Lightperson
A dimension filled with scraps of magical light. Ordinary matter is comparatively rare but due to a long history of contact with more conventional dimensions it's generally filled with breathable air in populated areas.
Numina
Fantasy setting with angels and demons, each of whom have their own dimension adjacent to the human one. Angel society is kinda messed up but mostly aligned with human well-being. Demon societies are mostly postscarcity utopias except for the thing where they don't think of humans as people or have any equivalent of the ASPCA for them.
Trinity
Alt-history quasi-earth setting with magic and no masquerade, although it does have a globe-spanning conspiracy. The magic system is based on imposing one's will on the universe, and is divided into three different branches based on method: Sympathy, Effort and Conquest. Using magic hurts and has mental side effects.
Selftopias

dath ilan
Iarwain's setting. Originally created for an April Fool's Day Tumblr post, as a setting in which all coordination problems have been solved and people learn decision theory in school. The setting has evolved somewhat over time, and is now is Iarwain/Eliezer's medianverse. Some details of the setting in early posts/threads may not still hold for the current version of the setting.
dath ilan's name is intentionally lowercase.
Qualities of dath ilan include:
- Keepers deal with infohazards and such
- Wheat is not a major staple crop in the modern era
- History was screened off at great expense for reasons that are kept secret
- The ratio of sadists to masochists is extremely skewed, and so the entire concept of BDSM is considered an infohazard
- Note: in early dath ilan threads, before the evolution toward being Iarwain's medianverse, the concept of BDSM was simply unfamiliar to everyone
- Everyone gets taught economics, decision theory, etc
- Society makes heavy use of prediction markets and other systems to optimize things
For non-glowfic posts on dath ilan, which do not include history being screened off, see dath ilan - LessWrong.

Milliways
Milliways
Milliways is loosely based on the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Milliways is less a setting in and of itself, and more a way of connecting other settings as an excuse for allowing characters from different worlds to meet one another. It connects worlds via "Milliways doors" -- a character opens a door and finds that, instead of whatever they were expecting to be on the other side of the door, there is Milliways. While characters are inside Milliways with the door closed, time is paused in their world of origin.
Milliways has an infinite menu and is managed by a sentient bar known only as Bar who typically communicates by writing on drink napkins.
Besides the Bar and table area, Milliways has rooms upstairs that can be rented and rooms downstairs which belong to the cleaning, infirmary and security staff. The seating area has a large window that overlooks the sky with exploding stars. The outside of the bar has a lake, a forest, a moutain range and the bar itself, all of which are dimensional anomalies with no visible end no matter how far you go.
“The lake is surrounded by three things: the Milliways building itself, a huge forest, and a small mountain range off in the distance. The higher she goes, the more stubbornly indistinct these three features become. The forest seems to go on forever; the mountains refuse to let her peek over them; the building retreats into a concealing fog like a distant landmark in a video game.” -Effulgence
Eclipse
Alicorn's BDSM AU. Everyone presents as dom, sub, switch, or nondynamic; the former two are most socially accepted, and nondynamics are rarest.
Generally fairly SFW as BDSM AUs go.
