In Qishan, he begins diverting the timeline as much as he can. He sneaks out at night, first freeing prisoners and causing a riot in the dungeons of the Indoctrination Bureau and then assassinating Wen Zhuliu. After the assassination, he, Jiang Cheng, Lan Wangji, and Jin Zixuan are imprisoned together and tortured. Wen Qing tends to their injuries. Before the torture can continue, they are taken on the monster hunting field trip. Once they are underground in the monster's cave, Wei Wuxian feeds Wen Chao to the Xuanwu.
