Aelare is the Joker in the Tayane universe.

Background

Aelare is the son of the abusive Duke Halzane of Viore.1 He is named after his father, and nicknamed Hal by Berete, but prefers to go by Aelare as he- standard for a Joker- hates all parts of his birth name.2 He was, according to Berete, something of a terror as a small child; he has since improved, likely at least partially due to his father's disciplinary methods.3

Meeting Aya and Piper

His father gives him Ayabel as a seventeenth birthday present.4 Distressed at receiving a human as a present, Aelare mostly leaves Aya to her own devices.5 They start to become friends after Aelare is beaten by his father and Aya helps to tend his wounds.6 He and Aya meet Piper not long after, who says she had not previously come forward because Aelare was known to be hard on his furniture.7 Piper has since moved downstairs to be closer to him and Aya.8
