Cricket is the Cricket from the Hex universe. He is the familiar of Queen Iobel Swan Cartalian of Marlatia.
History
Cricket was the spirit animal of Iobel Swan until she formally bound him to become her familiar when she was seven.1 The two ran a magic shop together in the capital city of Emavan. When Iobel tries to flee a royal order, Cricket is poisoned and kidnapped to coerce her into remaining as a candidate for marriage to Edarial Cartalian. He is returned to Iobel upon their marriage. Upon the revelation that Nataliem Oteliar and not Edarial was responsible for his abduction, Cricket eventually thaws (slightly) towards Edarial, though not without threats.2
Language
As a familiar, Cricket speaks his own personal language known only to Iobel (and, later, those under the translation spell invented by Adarin Sorelas (Cypress)). He can also speak a little Marlatian, but restricts himself almost entirely to swear words, helpfully provided by Zevros Cartalian.
