History

Background

Bella lives in the walled town of Forks with her parents Charlie and Renée. She is a practicing witch with a magic addiction. She conjures the Gem of Amara to town for safekeeping until she can destroy it, and hides it in a local house popular among squatters.1[1]

Meeting Sherlock

Sherlock Holmes finds her before she can complete her spell and threatens her into handing over the Gem of Amara in exchange for Tony Stark's laser pointer plans.2[2] They then make a deal; she will not report him to the USADI if he stays in Forks so she can ensure he's not killing people.3[3]

Learning from Sherlock

To uphold his end of the deal, Sherlock enrolls at Forks High masquerading as a high school student named John Escott from London, England.4[4] He agrees to try teaching Bella his method of analytical observation because he thinks it might be interesting.5[5] As her first assignment, she researches him and discovers he is a rapid-grown clone of Tony Stark.6[6]

Sherlock at the Witchnook

In preparation for the USADI recruitment fair, Bella goes without magic for three days so they won't be able to identify her as a witch.7[7] Suffering withdrawal and irritable, she shows up at the Witchnook for supplies, but upon finding Sherlock working at the register, a lack of useful ingredients for sale and her father's cop car outside, she bursts into tears.8[8] Sherlock offers her a hug; suspicious, she casts a truth spell, but he simply admits he legitimately likes spending time with her and wants to comfort her.9[9] The resulting awkwardness eventually eases when she returns to the Witchnook for some sage and Sherlock apologizes for scaring her when he first demanded the Gem.[10]10[11]11
