History

Background

Lynn is a high school English teacher in Forks, Washington.Washington. She was once married with a daughter, but her husband and daughter both perished in a car crash after her husband had had too much to drink.

Adoption

Lynn opens the door one day to find a three year old girl suffering from amnesia abandoned in a basket on her doorstep.^[1]1[2]2 Lynn calls the police but, lacking any helpful memories from the foundling, they are unable to help.^3[3] They leave the child with Lynn, who agrees to foster her, and the two of them pick out the name Astrid.^4[4]

Raising Astrid

At first, Lynn attributes Astrid's strict vegan diet to a quirky upbringing.^5[5] When Astrid scrapes her knee and bleeds clear fluid rather than blood and her hair turns pink after eating strawberries, she and Lynn realize she is probably not human.^6[6] Lynn confirms this by failing to find Astrid's heartbeat with a stethoscope, but reassures Astrid that she is still her daughter, even if she isn't human, and that she will keep her secret lest doctors and scientists try to take her away to study her.^[7]7[8]8

Plague

Had Incandescence continued, Astrid would have eventually attended Johns Hopkins as a premed student and began dating Beluchi Swan. They would then encounter the Plague of Utopias,Utopias, locate the other plant faeries, and resurrect Lynn's dead daughter.^9[9]
