History
As a baby, Nika was left on the doorstep of the Imperial Residence's servant's entrance in a basket.1 She was found by Ludmilla Droushnakovi, the bodyguard of Emperor Gregor Vorbarra, and brought to Gregor and Lady Cordelia Vorkosigan.2 ImpSec located the person who left her, but they were merely bribed; ImpSec then follows the bribe money, but it leads to a woman too pregnant to be Nika's mother, and with (even under fast-penta interrogation) no memory of Nika or anything related to her.3 She is therefore temporarily in the care of Drou, Cordelia and Gregor.4
