History

Background

Bella grew up with her parents Charlie Swanna, a cop, and Renée, a kindergarten teacher in Solaceon. They split up when she was young, after which she moved back and forth between them.1 She became a Pokémon trainer and began searching for legendary Pokémon so she could inquire about, and possibly replicate, their method of immortality.2 Her first attempts at Lake Valor and Lake Verity did not pan out, so she moved on to Lake Acuity.

Lake Acuity

Bella travels to Lake Acuity in search of an Uxie, where she finds Sherlock and Tony Stark's tower. After a couple matches against Sherlock for fun, she explores the lake determines they need a Pokémon with Dive, so they run a few matches to allow Sherlock's Irene to evolve. She returns home when Irene also fails to locate the Uxie, but comes back a month later at Sherlock's invitation. They have a few more matches, and run tests on Sherlock's ability to understand Pokémon. She leaves with the promise to bring Sherlock a job application translating Pokémon for Charlie, and to bring Tony the sweaters Renée knitted for his Porygon. When she arrives with the specified items the following month, the twins are a little more open: she is introduced to Jarvis for the first time, and Sherlock explains how Tony cloned him from himself and his Ditto Mycroft.

Search for Shaymin

Charlie's first request for Sherlock to translate for a Pokémon witness results in a lead on a legendary Pokémon; the Geodude mentioned that she fought a Shaymin. Bella and Sherlock fly to Solaceon to ask her more questions, and learn the Shaymin was working with a human in Unova. After a brief stop at the tower to see Tony, Bella and Sherlock fly on Irene to Castelia City to continue searching.

Characteristics

"Bella's approximately the sort of person you expect to invite herself into your house: obviously a trainer ([six] Pokéballs on her belt; practical outfit decorated with designs of same; backpack; half a dozen gym badges pinned to one strap and her Ace Trainer guild pin attached to the other) but a cut above the usual hiker or backpacker who'd be likely to come through this area in a typical day."3

Tony has described Bella as "she's dressed like a trainer on the road and she has a cute nose and her jaw goes in a little at the sides."4

Pokémon Trainer

Bella is a very talented trainer, who typically can only be matched by other guild members.5 She trains the following Pokémon:

  • Rachis, a Pidgeot
  • Zag, a Linoone
  • Dusk, an Umbreon
  • Fireflower, a Rapidash
  • Branch, a Sawsbuck
  • Juu, a Mienshao

Her first Pokémon was Zag, who was originally caught by her mother but later given to Bella.67 Rachis and Fireflower Bella caught herself, while Dusk, Branch and Juu were Guild trades.8
