Plot

Events diverge from The Untamed story at approximately episode 10. Wei Ying happens to overhear when the Nie captain is harassing Meng Yao, and she notifies Nie Mingjue. Nie Mingjue punches the captain and sentences him to punishment duties and yells a lot, leaving Meng Yao satisfied and less intent on murdering the captain as soon as possible. When Wen Chao attacks the Unclean Realm, there are no betrayals. Wei Ying makes sure that Xue Yang does not escape. Ultimately they drive Wen Chao and his soldiers away, though not before Wen Chao is extremely gross at Wei Ying and says some very ominous things about Cloud Recesses burning.

Meanwhile, Cloud Recesses is burning. Lan Zhan gives herself up in exchange for the surviving Lans inside the Cold Cave being left alive. Wen Xu has her leg broken. While she is left alone in a tent, Lan Zhan manages to hide her fragment of the Yin Iron in a rabbit burrow. Wen Xu searches her and interrogates her briefly, but ultimately hands her off to Wen Chao. Offscreen, Wen Chao tortures her for its whereabouts in many unpleasant ways, including sexual assault. Wei Ying senses that something is very wrong when they are reunited at Indoctrination, and dresses as a Wen guard to search for her at night. She rescues Lan Zhan, incapacitating Wen Chao and taking him prisoner. Using Wen Chao's sword, they flee to the Unclean Realm. 

They share a room, and a bed. Lan Zhan recovers, while Meng Yao and Wei Ying take turns torturing Wen Chao. Wen Chao confesses assaulting Lan Zhan to Meng Yao, who threatens him into silence. Out of concern for Lan Xichen, who loves his little sister very much, Meng Yao brings Lan Zhan some wine and offers his support. Lan Zhan, frustrated and exhausted by her trauma response to Meng Yao, drinks some. Wei Ying finds her passed out on the floor. Wei Ying and drunk Lan Zhan have a soft gay time, and Lan Zhan nearly kisses her. In the morning, Wei Ying confesses and they finally get together with plenty of kissing.

When Lan Zhan is recovered enough to walk, she and Wei Ying and Meng Yao and a troupe of Nies travel to Gusu to find and help Lan survivors. Meng Yao successfully tracks Lan Xichen to his inn, and brings him back to the others. Lan Qiren walks in on Wei Ying and Lan Zhan kissing. With the combined Nie and Lan forces, they retake Cloud Recesses.

Once Cloud Recesses are secure, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying and a handful of Lan disciples head to the war front to be more proactively helpful. 

[Lotus Pier is attacked, Madam Yu and Yanli are later shown to survive. After hearing this news, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying break out the other disciples in Nightless City, revisit the Unclean Realm (where Wei Ying announces her relationship to Jiang Cheng) and then go to Yunmeng to help evacuate kids. Lan Zhan finds out that she is pregnant. Wei Ying decides to marry her about it, publicly claiming that the baby is hers by way of talisman experimentation. Meanwhile, Wei Ying and Meng Yao become sworn siblings.]

In the two week period before the wedding in which Wei Ying is not supposed to see Lan Zhan, she accompanies Meng Yao to visit his mother's grave. When they are ambushed by Wens and the ground is disturbed by an explosion, Wei Ying stuffs a fragment of Yin Iron inside Meng Shi's withered corpse to hide it. This accidentally revives Meng Shi as a fierce corpse, who Wei Ying manages to calm and restore to consciousness. She returns with them to the Nie encampment. Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue are informed of the latest Wei Ying incident and called upon to act as witnesses to Meng Shi's harmlessness.
