History

Background

Shara's parents met when Karaz saved a large group of people, including Auriny, from a flash flood. His heroism caused him to eventually be designated the next king of Casasha by the Heir Crown and so Shara grew up as princess of Casasha. At age eight she was cured of the typical Bell clumsiness by a chronic-healer.^[1] When Shara was old enough she received her options as a raveler and chose metaraveling. Once she turned sixteen, she began going on yearly expeditions with her friend Kayam in search of adventures to prove herself as heir.

Chelasi's House

When Shara is nineteen, her yearly expedition takes her and Kayam past Chelasi's house in the woods. When Shara sees Chelasi's raveling, she enters the house to try to discover who had used a magic as horrifying as enamoring.^[2] But as soon as Shara mentions being a raveler, Chelasi tries to enamor her, and Shara and Kayam are forced to kill her in self-defense.^[3] Absent Chelasi's influence most of the house's residents scatter, but Adarin and Zeviana Sorelas have nowhere to go, so Shara and Kayam bring the siblings back to Casasha with them.^[4]

Casasha

Once they arrive in Casasha Shara installs Adarin and Zeviana at the palace, with Adarin attached to her service as an incidental raveler.^[5] After Shara is confirmed as the Heir, Adarin and Shara initiate a romance, with some prompting from Zeviana and Kayam.^[6][7]

Plague

Had Incandescence continued, Ravel would have been the next world to meet the Plague of Utopias. Shara would be able to fix Isabella Swan (Phix) from her encounter with the magic in Tayane, and discover the ability to lossily convert her energy into mana for the Kystle mages. When the Plague reaches Momentum, she and Dianira are able to decipher the end condition in the curse on Kithabel Swan, allowing Darian Phillips to rescue her.^[8]

Magic

As a raveler, when she became a teenager Shara received metaraveling, acute healing or shielding as her options and immediately chose metaraveling.^[9] She can undo or edit any raveler's work, though what edits she can make depends on the type of ravelry. Since it takes significantly more energy for Shara to modify a raveling than it does for the raveler to create it, some of the more tiring forms of ravelry such as artificing are beyond her ability to affect.
