History
Background
Sylvi was raised in Niaham, where she spent seven years in the creche before finding a teacher to apprentice from.[1] She worked on automating shines, though she also made herself a horse-shaped automaton to compensate for her clumsiness.[2][3] At eighteen, she started having oddly vivid dreams of her past lives; after reporting a fellow apprentice for rape, her household treated her coldly for 'siding against them', and she decided that- as long as she was leaving anyway- she might as well investigate.[4] Identifying the city of Lapis, she traveled there to investigate.[5]
Lapis
Upon her arrival in Lapis, she and Avedan are mobbed by a flock of parrot servants who lead them to Charp, a golem who welcomes them "back" and gives them access to the belongings of their past selves.[6][7] After spending time together in their cache, Sylvi and Avedan begin a relationship.[8] A while later, Sylvi invents a shine-baesd Turing machine. They are eventually added to the Plague of Utopias, though they remain confused by and skeptical of conventional reproduction.[9]
