Tamara is the Tamara from the Lumos universe. She is the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.

History

Background

Tamara is a half-blood witch born and raised in Northern California by her wizard father and Muggle mother. She and her younger sister Julia both attended Alta California Academy of the Arts Magical, where she excelled in her studies. After graduating she became a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at her alma mater, but later moved to Texarcana School of Wizardry and Witchcraft to teach Potions. There she met and married Charles Reed, a Muggle, and had a son named Kevin, but Charles left them when Kevin was four. Two years later, looking for a change for them both, Tamara volunteered to go with Scott Fisher to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy to help fill the teaching gap caused by the war against Voldemort.

Hogwarts

As the term progresses, anti-American sentiment increases. Tamara accompanies Miranda Swan to the Ministry of Magic to teach her Patronus to the Aurors; when Miranda's hazel wand subsequently goes missing, Tamara is accused and arrested. She is released when Gilderoy Lockhart locates Miranda's wand and proves her innocence.

Abilities

Tamara is an excellent witch with particular strengths in Defense Against the Dark Arts, which she tolerates as a necessary evil, and Potions, which she prefers. Like most American wizards, she has no Patronus.

Relationships

Kevin

Kevin is the most important thing in Tamara's world. When his father stopped visiting after the divorce, he became increasingly despondent; Tamara took the job at Hogwarts in an effort to provide him with a new start.

Charles

Charles and Tamara were very compatible, and married while deeply in love. However, Charles' feelings about their relationship grew tainted by prejudice and scorn from purist wizards. When Kevin began to exhibit signs of magic Charles finally left, feeling too inferior in a magical world. Although he visited for the first few holidays after the divorce, Tamara has not seen him for the past couple of years.

Julia

Tamara often encourages her sister to 'make something more of herself', while her sister feels outclassed by her talented older sister. Despite this dynamic, they are fond of each other (if not precisely close) and owl each other with reasonable regularity.

Parents

As with her sister, Tamara is fond of her parents, but not close to them. They live in California, and Tamara visits them every couple of years, though she has been visiting more regularly since Kevin was born.
