Mercy is the Joker from the Circle universe.

Background

Mercy was born a Trader but ran away; how he arrived at Winding Circle is unknown.^[1] He lives there in Discipline with Stormy, Rook, Sedge, Niva, Serahila, and Elyth because he was getting into fights in the boys' dormitories.^[2] He can speak Tradertalk and is learning Namornese from Sedge; he can also curse in a number of additional languages, which he is teaching Rook.^[3]

Magic

Mercy is an ambient mage who, though most ambient mages have only one ability, has abilities in both cooking and thread magic.^[4] He is learning cooking from Dedicate Maple and threadwork and knitting from Dedicate Finch.^[5][6] He and Niva are also learning the form of meditation that utilizes stick fighting from Dedicate Finch, because they find normal meditation too boring.^[7]
